The Progression of the Cool Poker Table
Have you ever noticed that there are literally hundreds if not thousands of different poker table designs out there? Poker tables come in all different shapes, colors and designs. It seems that when it comes to poker tables like most things in life somebody wants one just a little bit nicer than his buddies. I think that is the essence of what makes a cool poker table.
From my own experience this is what I have noticed as the progression in the cool poker table. I believe there are four phases to the cool poker table experience.
Phase 1 – The rookie phase.
In this phase you are just happy to be playing poker. You go to a friend’s house and you play on his or her nice dining room table. The next time you play the guy who won all the money last time went to the fabric store and bought a couple yards of green felt. This may be one of the most cost effective ways to have the poker experience by the way. The final part of the rookie phase is when someone buys a poker table top that has little chip rack, drink holders and some fancy silk screen writing. This is the end of the rookie phase.
Phase 2 – Semi-Pro Phase
You’ve been winning some local games and now it is time to have some class. You purchase a table that has only one purpose, to play poker. You spend a surprising sum of money on a piece of furniture that you won’t tell your significant other the price of. However, this table is relatively basic compared to some of the other ones.
Phase 3 – Pro Phase
You have moved beyond the simple folding leg style of table and have a true work of art that you prominently display as a permanent fixture in your home. This table is usually made of wood, metal and other high quality materials. No plastic or plywood is present here. Your friends have moved beyond jealousy and think you are totally insane.
Phase 4 – Poker Table Art
This is the final phase of a poker table purchasers dream. You have a unique one of a kind piece of art. You commissioned a poker table artist to create a table like no other in the known universe. It uses all custom features with something totally unique covering the felt. Typically, to enter this phase you must be a true fan of the game.
